Marisabel Bazan is a Panamanian artist and entrepreneur based out of Los Angeles who is known for her colorful, inspirational butterfly-themed public art, humanitarian partnerships and brand collaborations. She employs multiple techniques when creating her work including painting, mixed-media, sculpture, video and interactive art. Her bold, expressionistic style reflects the influence of her urban community.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, in public displays such as billboards in Times Square in NYC, murals, galleries and private collections in Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Geneva and Panama. Marisabel’s West Hollywood mural “The Dance of the Butterflies” has been selected as one of the top 100 photogenic spots in Los Angeles and top 9 murals in Los Angeles by LA Magazine, and is included in the official tour of the city. Marisabel has collaborated on a limited-edition collection for the LeSportsac brand, sold around the world and featured in Oprah Winfrey’s Life Lift: The Oprah Blog on “how a vision board became a bag.” Between 2015-2017, Marisabel’s work was taken into a limited-edition collection of home décor and fashion items sold in Panama, the U.S. and European markets.
In 2016, Marisabel unveiled a 7-feet tall butterfly sculpture named Ananda to support the 2016 UN Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Zero Discrimination Campaign. Ananda was installed in the lobby of UNAIDS building at the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and became part of the United Nations private art collection. Ananda celebrates the inherent contentment, joy and fulfillment of existence and was created for the zero-discrimination campaign as a symbol of transformation, equality and empowerment. This colorful art piece was donated by UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador and First Lady of Panamá, Lorena Castillo de Varela.
Her most recent creation is a mural entitled Vida that addresses the topic of homelessness. She was selected by the Lancaster Museum of Art & History to create a public piece for a transitional housing for homeless people and families in Lancaster, California.
